In addition, the Board has indicated its support to expand the PCSO website and the use of technology in general. The Technology Committee will hold a planning meeting early in the year to determine what changes to make in the current operation.
The Continuing Education Committee will continue along its path of reviewing the entire PCSO education program with the development of a "member needs assessment." It is intended that such a survey will help several committees better understand members' needs, desires, and preferences.
2001 AAO House of Delegates
During the Reno meeting, the delegates and alternates to the AAO House of Delegates met to organize and begin discussing ideas for 2001. Ideas under consideration include a redefining of component recognition by the AAO and required ADA membership.
Other issues will surface after the November Board of Trustees meeting, after which we will know about issues other constituent societies will be considering.
Member's input on these and any other issues is important and requested; please e-mail Dr. Varner directly at rev@rosenet.net.
Reno Annual Session
Oct. 1-4 in Reno, PCSO held its 2000 Annual Session. Attendance was far above early estimates, primarily due to the strong program of topics and speakers. Meeting evaluations are being processed.
Most popular lectures for members proved to be Dr. Vince Kokich (Adult Orthodontics in the 21st Century), Dr. Robert Boyd (Orthodontic Treatment of Complex Malocclusions with the Invisalign Appliance), Dr. James McNamara (Differential Treatment of Class Malocclusion), and Dr. David Sarver (Soft Tissue Maturation and Aging).
The staff program proved well attended, with over 1,000 attending. Some of the best attended sessions were "Psychology in the Orthodontic Office" (Ms. Marsha Freeman), "Anterior Dental Esthetics" (Dr. Vince Kokich), "Relationship Dynamics and Integrating the New Patient" (Ms. Jodi Peacock) and "Creating a Great Team" (Ms. Rosemary Bray).
A Welcoming Party was held at the National Automobile Museum, with over 500 participating.
One of the meeting highlights was the Opening Luncheon. Bruce Christopher presented a fascinating presentation on "Emotional Intelligence".
Also during the meeting, the membership approved changes in the Bylaws that allow all Component directors to the Board to vote at all times, on all issues. Prior to the change, some component directors shared votes. Further, a change was made to accommodate an increase in the number of PCSO delegates to the AAO House of Delegates.
In addition, the membership elected two members to new offices: Dr. Dale Rhoney, President-Elect (Lake Oswego, OR) and Dr. Todd Hellwig, Secretary-Treasurer (Scottsdale, AZ). Dr. Robert Varner (Roseburg, OR) automatically moves up to President.
